While I was sitting at the park a toddler and her mother walked by. She waved goodbye to me. It was as if she'd discovered waving was another way to use her hand and she was experimenting with it. I waved back. She looked back and kept waving.
I thought of the many wonderful things we use our hands. Hands can soothe, stroke and caress. Hands can make wonderful things that give people so much pleasure. We could even play games using our hands.
Right at that moment there was a game of cricket in progress. The guys were all dressed in white and looking very serious. They used their hands to bowl and bat. After a few minutes they took a break. It's the only sport I know where players take long breaks. Everything about cricket is so laidback. I wonder how someone came up with the cricket idea?
Guy 1: Fancy a run?
Guy 2: No, I'm too knackered.
Guy 1: Hey, how about if I just throw you this ball and you can bat it with your hand. It will be fun.
Guy 2: OK, as long as I don't have to do a lot of running because I'm knackered.
That was cricket's first inception.
Anyway, the guys returned to the field and their game of cricket commenced in earnest. I know they run after each bat, when appropriate, but I couldn't quite work out why the guys kept walking around the field. The game got so exciting, I fell asleep. When I woke up I figured it was time I went home.
I noticed three guys in cricket outfits were resting on a bench close by. As I walked by I waved and said the game was so exciting I fell asleep.
"Come over here," one of the guys beckoned, "and I will explain the game to you."
Me and my big mouth!
"No thanks, I've got to go."
"Come on," he said, "come and sit next to me." His two friends moved over which created space next to the guy.
"You're alright. I really have to go. Thanks anyway." I waved and walked out of the park.
Funny how I wondered about how the game of cricket is played and I attracted an expert who was willing to explain it to me.
There are so many ways we can use our hands to love one another.
This hand is now waving all of you goodbye.
