On one level, life seems chaotic and full of accidents, missed opportunities, and challenges. However, when life is experienced from Cause there are no accidents or missed opportunities. It's all working perfectly. Here's one such example.
Over the last few months I've been carrying my mother's shopping bag. It's a white crotchet bag which you can either carry in your hand or hang over your shoulder. I would put my stuff in a plastic bag and then put the plastic bag in the shopping bag. Two days ago a young lady admired the bag and asked me where I had bought it. I said it was my mother's and I didn't know where she'd bought it from.
While I was getting off the bus yesterday, I must have picked up the plastic bag inside and the crotchet bag must have slipped off. By the time I realised, it was too late to retrieve it. I was unhappy about the loss because it was my mother's and I had become very attached to it. I prayed for the bag to be returned. Later that day, I returned to the bus station to see if it had been handed in but it wasn't. I was given a telephone number to call.
When I told my mother about the loss, at first she seemed upset then she said not to worry about it; these things happens. I was still determined to have my mother's bag or at least discover why I had "lost" it in the first place.
Earlier today before I left home, I called the number I was given to find out whether the bag had been found or handed in but it wasn't. My mother told me not to worry about it. She said as the bag is very pretty, someone else will have picked it up and was now going to make good use of it. She said for a long time when she wasn't using it, she had intended to include the bag with clothes and stuff she usually sends to her relatives in Sierra Leone, but she decided not to because she didn't think they would make good use of it.
Aha, so her intention was to give the bag away! Although I had been using the bag, I never considered it to be mine. I always thought I was borrowing it. In a funny way my mother's intention had come true. Someone else was going to make good use of it. If only I'd accepted the bag as mine, I would have continued to enjoy our time together. Never mind!
It's a funny thing intention - once you put out an intention it has to come true, one way or another.
There are no missed opportunities. It's all working perfectly.
